Support to Women’s Committee for The Creation of a Public Cultural Center in Hrar (Akkar)
Duration: February 2012 – August 2012
Beneficiaries: 15 women, 100 children, 20 young students and the village (3,000 persons)
Donor: CCFD – Comité Catholique contre la Faim et pour le Développement – Terre Solidaire
Location: Akkar (Hrar)
Objectives:
Hrar’s women committee began its activities in 2010. Women have identified the creation of a public cultural center as a need for their village, as there was no public space for the community to meet and organize activities. The project objective aimed to support the women technically and financially in planning, organizing, equipping and running the cultural center, including a public library, as well as encouraging public reading in the village.
Activities:
– Definition of a step-by-step implementation process prior to the establishment of the cultural space,
– Specific training on library establishment and management by Assabil (Friends of Public Libraries Association), and visits of public libraries,
– Provision of the center with furniture, books, and computers,
– Organization of activities in the cultural center: film screening and storytelling for children, languages and computer courses for adults.
